Hiking in Montserrat

Montserrat is a short distance away from Barcelona and for many, visit to the monastery would not be complete without walking around the mountain; it’s more than just a Monastery – but a whole mountain. Most of the walks are easy but some require a funicular from the Montserrat and / or sharp ascension at the end.

One can choose to hike up to the highest point of the Montserrat mountain, or walk up to the important pilgrim site, Santa Cova, where an image of the Virgin Mary is believed to have been seen, or walk along the walls descending from the flats of the Trinity with a view of the Pyrenees and the flat lands of the Llobregat valley.

Opening Hours: Most of the walks/hikes are open every day during the normal day hours (9am – pm) but whichever is your style, we suggest planning ahead considering the train connections from Barcelona and opening hours of funiculars.
